Liberia’s locally led climate adaptation efforts are receiving support through Performance-Based Climate Resilience Grants backed by UNCDF, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to UNCDF, US$296,000 has been transferred through the Ministry of Internal Affairs to Nimba and Lofa counties for climate-resilient investments aligned with Liberia’s National Adaptation Plan.
In Lofa County, solar-powered water systems are planned for Foyah and Kolahum, while Voinjama District is expected to benefit from drainage, waterway rehabilitation and solid-waste improvements aimed at reducing flood and health risks.
In Nimba County, financing is supporting solar-powered lighting in areas with limited reliable electricity. More than 100 vulnerable youth, including people living with disabilities, are also being trained in solar installation and maintenance.
