GANTA, Nimba County — The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has begun the process of reviewing Jungle Energy Power’s application to renew its electricity distribution license in Nimba County.
The Commission held a public hearing in Ganta on September 9 as part of the regulatory process, allowing residents, local authorities and other stakeholders to present their views on JEP’s operations and proposed license renewal.
Jungle Energy Power has operated in Nimba since 2018. Its current electricity distribution license, issued in July 2021, is scheduled to expire this year.
During the hearing, the company presented its plans for the next five years, including measures aimed at expanding electricity access and reducing technical losses on its network.
JEP reported approximately US$2.3 million in electricity sales between January and August 2026. The company also identified the cost of purchasing electricity, technical losses, electricity theft and recent tariff changes as challenges affecting its operations.
Consumers and community representatives raised concerns about electricity reliability, affordability and service delivery.
LERC is expected to review the submissions before making a decision on whether to renew JEP’s license.
